Nanu Ki Jaanu Movie Review
Nanu Ki Jaanu is a Hindi comedy horror film directed by Faraz Haider and written by Manu Rishi Chadha. The film stars Abhay Deol and Patralekhaa in the lead roles, along with Manu Rishi Chadha, Brijendra Kala, Himani Shivpuri, Sapna Choudhary and Rajesh Sharma in supporting roles. The film is a remake of the 2014 Tamil film Pisaasu, which was directed by Mysskin.
The film revolves around Nanu (Abhay Deol), a land mafia agent in Delhi who rents out homes and then usurps them from their owners. One day, he witnesses a car accident and rushes the victim, Siddhi (Patralekhaa), to the hospital. However, she dies on the way and her ghost starts haunting Nanu's flat. Nanu soon realizes that Siddhi is in love with him and tries to get rid of her spirit. However, he also develops feelings for her and decides to help her find justice for her death.
The film received mostly negative reviews from critics, who criticized the film's inconsistent tone, weak script, poor direction and lack of humor and horror. The film was also a box office flop, earning only Rs. 4.32 crore against a budget of Rs. 15 crore.
Reza Noorani (The Times of India)
"Neither the performances nor an ever changing storyline, where newer characters are introduced, help pick it up. An anticlimactic, emotional ending further seals the fate of this film."
Shubhra Gupta (The Indian Express)
"The crux of this entire affair is that Nanu Ki Jaanu is unsure of what it wants to be, the team lacks the ability to make it everything they want it to be, and the film therefore ends up flailing its arms all over the place."
Saibal Chatterjee (NDTV)
"Nanu Ki Jaanu is about a girl who becomes a ghost and disappears into a chimney, taking the film with her into the pits. We deserve better."
Devesh Sharma (Filmfare)
"All said and done, the film is definitely worth a few laughs. Watch it for some good clean fun spiked with a light dose of horror."
Nandini Ramnath (Scroll.in)
"Suspense is thin in a movie with three major characters. The staggering incompetence on display ensures that the events are neither funny nor frightening."
The film marks Abhay Deol's comeback after a gap of two years. His last film was Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016).
The film features a cameo appearance by Sapna Choudhary, a popular Haryanvi singer and dancer who participated in Bigg Boss 11.
The film's title is inspired by the song "Nanu Ki Jaanu" from the 1979 film Noorie, which was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Nitin Mukesh.
The film's music was composed by Meet Bros, Babli Haque, Sajid-Wajid and Gunwant Sen. The film's soundtrack consists of four songs, namely "Tere Thumke Sapna Choudhary", "Bhoot Aaya", "Tujhe Dekhti Hai Nazar" and "Kali Choti".
The film was shot in various locations in Delhi, Noida and Mumbai.
